Three years after first being announced in 2018, the Pickering Casino and Resort has opened in the Great Toronto Area.
The venue is operating at 75 per cent capacity due to Covid-19 restrictions.
Once things return to normal, the venue will host 2,400 slot machines, about 100 live table games, 140 live dealer stadium gaming terminals and 10 dining options.
Terrance Doyle, the Great Canadian Gaming Corporation’s interim chief executive officer, highlighted the casino’s potential to help the company’s growth.
He said:
“The opening of the casino at Pickering Casino Resort is yet another step toward our company’s recovery from the impact of Covid-19. This will be Great Canadian’s 25th property currently operating in Canada and the first casino resort opened in Ontario in 16 years.”
The venue has created 600 jobs in the first phase of its opening. Once fully completed, it’s expected to create 10,000 jobs and contribute $600m in tax revenue.
