Swiss gambling regulator renamed to Gespa

Swiss gambling regulator renamed to Gespa

On January 1, 2021, the Concordat of the Swiss Money Games (GSK) came into force. With the entry into force of the law, the agreement on supervision, as well as on the authorization and use of income for lotteries and bets held at the inter-cantonal level or throughout Switzerland, was canceled. All legal proceedings before the Lottery and Betting Commission (Comlot), as well as all rights and obligations of Comlot, were transferred to Gespa from January 1, 2021.

With immediate effect, the inter-cantonal gambling supervisory authority, the Gespa, ensures that the Swiss population can safely and socially responsibly participate in lotteries, sports betting and gambling. On January 1, 2021, it assumed all the tasks and competencies of the former Comlot.

Gespa is an independent institute of public law. The highest body is the Supervisory Board. It consists – including the President – of five members, two of whom are from French-speaking and German-speaking Switzerland and one member from Italian-speaking Switzerland. Members of the former Comlot committee became members of the Gespa Supervisory Board at the beginning of the year. The previous Comlot secretariat became the Gespa office. In addition, the office, which is managed by the director, is responsible for operational activities.

The transformation of Comlot into Gespa was the reason for the redesign of the word sign and logo, as well as the www.gespa.ch.
